Yoshimune Tokugawa (1684-1751), the 8th Shogun of the Edo Shogunate planted the first cherry blossom trees. There are currently approx. 640 cherry blossom trees. Enjoy an approx. 1 km row of cherry blossom trees along the both sides of the Sumida River together with the view of the Tokyo Skytree.

Approx. 1,000 Yoshino cherry trees create a tunnel of cherry blossom on the river bank for 1 km. Rape flowers are also planted next to the river bank to be able to enjoy the contrast of the light pink of the cherry blossoms and the yellow of the rape flowers. Various events including illumination will be held during Sakura Matsuri (cherry blossom festival) from March 26 to April 9.*The period of the festival may be earlier or later depending on the flowering situation.
