One of the highlights of Nikko's World Heritage sites is the Tosho-gu Shrine's Yomei-mon, or Yomei Gate, with its exquisite woodwork. This is a personal favorite of mine, and it still impresses me whenever I see it. Nikko is especially beautiful in winter, when snow covers everything. It's well worth the visit.

Yomei-mon
(toshogu-shine,wold heritage)
Nikko's most must-see places are without a doubt is 94 World Heritage sites. Among them the most famous is the Yomei-mon Gate at Tosho-gu Shrine. The mythical creatures carved into the wooden gate are a parable of life, and they are so marvelously done that you could spend an entire day looking at them. These are a personal favorite of mine, and I never get tired of looking at them.

Kotokunuma Marsh
One of Nikko's "hidden treasures" I tell everyone about is how beautiful it is in winter. The fields of white from the grounds of Futarasan Shrine looking out to Lake Chuzenji are magnificent. A different type of winter beauty can also be seen in Oku-Nikko, at Senjogahara Plateau Plains and Nikko Yumoto Onsen(hotspring). Bathing in the outdoor baths at Nikko Yumoto Hot Springs while enjoying the snow-covered scenery is an experience you'll never forget.

To make your trip to Nikko as enjoyable as possible, we make Tobu Nikko Station as fun and pleasurable as possible, too. For instance, in summer we hang wind chimes and put out exhibits of stag beetles, to create a summery atmosphere. The station has a visitor's counter and a shop, where you can buy bentos (lunch boxes) made with local speciality foods. While you're waiting for your train or bus, please explore everything our station has to offer.
