Frequently Asked Questions
Q.Which stations support contactless payment services across multiple railway operators?
Q.Which ticket gates support contactless credit card payment?
Q.Which credit cards support contactless payment?
Q.Can I use a smartphone, wearable device or similar device with contactless credit card functionality to complete payments?
Q.Which fare is charged when using contactless credit card payment?
When transferring to a Tokyo Metro or Toei Subway line from another operator's line, the 70-yen transfer discount applies. However, other short-distance transfer discounts are not available with this payment type.
Q.Can someone whose name is not shown as the cardholder name use a card for contactless payment?
Q.How do I pass through ticket gates at Tobu Railway stations that don't support contactless payment?
Departure station: Do not use contactless payment. Purchase a paper ticket or use a transit smartcard. (Please note that you cannot use contactless payment for limited express tickets that include JR-line through service.)
Arrival station: Confirm the fare for the distance you have traveled and complete your payment using cash or a transit smartcard (rounded to the nearest 10 yen). Please note that any ticket gate entry record tied to your credit card can be erased afterward at a station that supports contactless payment.
Unstaffed arrival station: Upon arrival, take a jokosha eki shomeisho (proof of boarding/detraining station certificate), then do one of the following:
(1) At a station that supports contactless payment: Submit the abovementioned certificate and make your payment (rounded to the nearest 10 yen) using cash or a transit smartcard. Afterward, erase the ticket gate entry record tied to your credit card.
(2) At a station that does not support contactless payment: Submit the abovementioned certificate and make your payment (rounded to the nearest 10 yen) using cash or a transit smartcard. Afterward, erase the ticket gate entry record tied to your credit card at a station that supports contactless payment.
Q.If I enter the departure station using a paper ticket or transit smartcard and later carry out fare adjustment (for riding past my originally planned destination) at the arrival station, can I use contactless credit card payment to complete this adjustment?
Q.Can I use contactless payment when transferring to a line that does not support this service (such as certain JR lines)?
・If you accidentally take a train outside of the area that supports contactless payment, you must pay the necessary amount from the transfer station to the destination station (rounded to the nearest 10 yen), while temporarily disregarding the fare from the original departure station to the transfer station. Afterward, at a station supporting contactless payment operated by the original departure station's railway company, you must cancel the departure station's ticket gate entry record and pay the fare from that station to the transfer station (rounded to the nearest 10 yen).
Example: If you board at Tobu Nishiarai Station using contactless credit card payment, transfer to a JR train at Kita-Senju without passing through any ticket gates, and continue on to JR Ueno Station, you must pay the fare for the JR line from Kita-Senju to Ueno at Ueno station. As this point, you will be instructed to settle the unpaid fare payment for the section from Nishiarai to Kita-Senju at a Tobu Railway station service counter. For the Tobu Railway fare, you must later pay the unpaid amount from Nishiarai to Kita-Senju (rounded to the nearest 10 yen) via cash or transit smartcard or credit card at a Tobu Railway station, then cancel the record of ticket gate entry at Nishiarai tied to your credit card.
To avoid this situation, we request that you use a paper ticket or transit smartcard in this situation instead of contactless payment.
Q.Can contactless credit card payment be used in the event of a replacement bus/train service when my intended train's operations have been suspended due to unforeseen circumstances?
Q.After passing through the departure station's ticket gate using contactless credit card payment, is it possible to use that same credit card to purchase things en route (at shops and similar) prior to leaving the ticket gates at the arrival station?
Q.Is it possible to purchase a platform ticket (for entering a station but not riding a train) using contactless payment?
Q.What should I do if I am able to enter the departure station using contactless payment, but unable to exit due to a problem with the credit card or loss of the card?
Q.What should I do if the smartphone or other device programmed with contactless payment functionality runs out of battery or experiences some sort of technical problem?
Afterward, erase the ticket gate entry record tied to your payment system at a station that supports contactless payment.
Q.Are cash refunds available with contactless payment?
Q.When are contactless card payments billed?
Note that all fares paid in a single day are billed together as one item. Please contact the company that issued your card for details.
Q.A station worker has given me my registration number. What do I do with it next?
