What kind of museum is the Tobu Museum?
It’s a museum introducing the history and the present day of the Tobu Railway, which commenced services in 1899. The Tobu Museum exhibits rail vehicles previously in service, including steam locomotives, wooden trains, express trains, buses, and other vehicles. It is a hands-on museum containing genuine operating equipment and it has simulations allowing visitors to experience driving a train, a railway panorama layout with running model trains, and more. The Museum was founded on 20 May, 1989, as one part of the celebrations for the 90th anniversary of the Tobu Railway.
How long does a visit take?
About 1 hour. If you plan to enjoy the simulators and hands-on exhibits etc., please allow a little extra time.
Can smaller children enjoy these?
If accompanied by a parent or guardian, even small children are permitted to enjoy the simulators and hands-on exhibits. The other exhibitions and shows (like the ones that move when you push a button) can be enjoyed regardless of age.
Is re-entry of the Museum allowed?
Yes, it is. When you head outside, please let the information desk know. You will be given a re-entry ticket.
Are strollers allowed inside the Museum?
Yes, it is. However, the passage of certain exhibition areas is the stairs only. Please feel free to use the stroller parking located near the front entrance.
Is photography permitted inside the Musuem?
Yes, it is. However, we may ask you to refrain from photographing certain special exhibitions.
Is there anywhere to eat in the Museum?
The Museum has no restaurant or cafe facilities. Visitors who have brought their own food may eat this in the Rest Area located on the 2nd floor. Drink vending machines are on the 2nd floor, located beside the Mukojima Satellite.
Is there car or bicycle parking?
Yes. Up to 12 vehicles may use the parking lot, free of charge. The parking lot is located under the overpass, about 100 meters from Higashi-Mukojima Station in the direction of Kanegafuchi Station. Please check here for more information.
Is there any coin lockers?
Please use the coin lockers provided. (100 yen coin, returned after use)
Is there a nursing room?
There is a nursing room attached to the women's restrooms on the 1st floor. However, there are no hot water facilities.
Do persons with disabilities receive a discount?
Visitors over 4 years of age who hold a physical disability certificate will receive a half-price admission. Up to 2 carers/companions (adults only) also receive half-price admission.
How far is the Tobu Museum from TOKYO SKYTREE?
The closest station to the Museum is Higashi-Mukojima station, which is 2 stations (6 minutes) from TOKYO SKYTREE Station on the Tobu Skytree line. On foot from the Museum, it would take about 25 minutes. From the TOKYO SKYTREE Station-mae bus stop on the Toei bus line (the Nishiki-40 (錦40) bus route between Minami-Senju East Entrance and Kinshicho Station), it’s five stops to Hyakkaen-mae bus stop, which takes about 10 minutes. Then it’s a 5-minute walk to the Museum. Here is the map.
