Introduction to the episode

First time riding
Exciting space

Yuki-kun, 40s, Saitama Prefecture
My parents, who live in Ishikawa Prefecture, are coming to visit my house in Saitama Prefecture for the first time.
This is when I got on the Spacia train with my parents, arrived at the station, and got off. There was a place where there was a distance between the train and the platform, so my father got off first and silently held out his hand to me.
For a moment I thought, ``Huh?'' but then I held her hand and my heart started pounding. My father's hands were sturdy and warm, and tears filled my eyes as I thought about how hard he worked to support us with these hands. It's an unforgettable memory that will last a lifetime.
Kanagawa Prefecture 40s Tsubame-san
That was over 30 years ago. My now deceased mother returned to work in her late 50s to replace my father who had passed away. I was commuting from Kanuma City to Imaichi City at the time.
One day, I said, ``Today I came back on the Spacia. It was my first time riding it. When I asked the conductor what the private rooms were like, he said they were empty at the moment and showed me one! That's awesome! ' I remember excitedly saying this after returning home.
He must have been tired from working after getting older. Thank you for giving my mother a moment of peace, grace, and kindness.
Izumin, 20s, Tokyo
About 15 years ago, I went to Kinugawa-onsen for the first time during a ski camp sponsored by the gymnastics class I was attending at the time.
I had mistakenly assumed that my family would be coming too, but when they didn't come onboard the Spacia, I started feeling suspicious. At Kinugawa-onsen, instead of skiing, I cried a lot from loneliness. It was a bittersweet first trip away from my parents.
Now that I've grown up, I enjoy many solo trips to Nikko and Kinugawa, but every time I see Spacia, I feel nostalgic as I remember how cute I was back then.
Ume-chan, university student in her 20s, Tokyo
I overslept. I was almost late.
At the time, I was a high school student living near Shin-kanuma Station and applying to universities in the city. Finally, it's my first choice of taking the exam! Perhaps I was too excited the day before, but I had trouble falling asleep and ended up oversleeping. A slow train won't make it in time. "terrible!". When I arrived at the station, I immediately boarded the Spacia 100 series. It was my first time riding an express train in my life. Thanks to that, I am now a college student at the university that was my first choice.

riding on spacia
I want to see you again

Fu-san, 30s, Chiba Prefecture
Whenever I went to my grandparents' house, I always rode the Spacia. The train journey, which takes about an hour and a half, goes by in the blink of an eye.
When I arrived at Shimo-imaichi Station and got off the platform, I always saw my grandfather peeking out from the ticket gate. Whether it was raining, snowing, or hot, my grandfather would always come to the station to pick us up and look for us through the ticket gate.
The figure of my grandfather standing at the ticket gate, which I can no longer see. Still, when we get off Spacia again, we'll look for our grandfather standing at the ticket gate.
Saitama Prefecture, 50s, Ms. Momosori Santama
Since moving to Kasukabe, she has often used the Spacia on her way home from work in Tokyo, and when the time is right, she and her husband will ride home together.
I rarely traveled with my husband, who was a police officer, but once I decided to go to Nikko. The comfort of Spacia from Kasukabe to Nikko is different from returning from work. I arrived in no time and told my husband, who was relaxing, that we had arrived. A precious memory of my late husband that still comes back to me every time I ride.
Tochigi Prefecture 50s Father and Daughter Story
I was living in a boarding house in Tokyo, and was returning to my parents' house for the weekend, where my family was waiting. I was very excited about this innovative vehicle.
On the other hand, my father waited anxiously at the station for me to return home, and on Sunday night he saw me off as I headed to Tokyo until the train was out of sight. My father has already passed away, but every time I ride the Spacia, I feel his love for me, which I didn't realize at the time. Thank you very much to Spacia and my father for watching over us as a parent and child.
Tokyo, 20s, Namba Eitoyaji
My first ride was when I was a few months old. For me, the Limited Express Spacia was a special train that connected me to my grandparents' house in Tochigi.
I always ride in the evening from Kita-senju Station, and I loved the scenery as I crossed the Arakawa River illuminated by the sunset and then traveled along the Tobu line as it gradually darkened. For 20 years, I remember the feeling of the automatic doors opening and getting off at Shin-kanuma Station, both the heat of summer and the cold of winter. My wife and I got married this spring and I want to get on the Spacia again soon and visit my grandparents.

Back then, Spacia was always
I was nearby

Tochigi Prefecture, 20s, Rice-chan
Just hearing the title ``Me and Spacia'' made me feel warm and reminded of the past.
I played baseball when I was little, so I often took the Spacia train with my dad when heading to Tokyo for games.
At the time, I didn't like how Spacia would always go home at the same speed, whether it was when I won and wanted to go home early to report, or when I lost and was scolded.
I have fond memories of that and have loved trains ever since I was a child. I hope I can make a lot of memories with my children at X this time.
Mom in her 30s from Saitama Prefecture who is a candidate for the next Tetsu-chan
When I returned home to give birth and went for a walk with my father.
When my father saw Spacia, he playfully said, ``I used to drink at Spacia after work as an occasional reward without telling my mother.'' 100 days after the birth of his first grandchild, my father went to heaven.
When I went for a walk with my mother and my one-and-a-half-year-old son, who loves trains. My mother broke down when she saw Spacia. ``After my father retired, he gave me a trip as a gift. But we fought in Spacia as usual.'' When I told my father's story, my mother cried, then laughed and said, ``It's obvious!''
Mr. Osupe, 30s, Saitama Prefecture
16 years ago, my first place of employment was Nikko. At that time, I couldn't get used to the coldness of Nikko and went out to Tokyo almost every week. At the time, Spacia was a train that I could describe as a ``commuter vehicle.''
In particular, I have fond memories of the Kegon train that left Asakusa at 9pm on my way home on Sunday night. I still fondly remember sitting in my seat with a feeling of trepidation due to the anxiety of heading to an unfamiliar job in an unfamiliar place, coupled with the quietness of the train with few passengers.
Sacchi, 60s, Tokyo
From 2006 to 2015, my husband was away on business, so we went from Asakusa to Shin-Kotoku twice a month on Friday nights after work.
At the time of the Tohoku earthquake, I had planned to leave my luggage in a locker in Asakusa and take the Spacia to Shin-Kotoku, but trains stopped and Asakusa Station was closed due to the earthquake, so I was unable to go there.
I have been using the service every month for over 10 years, and I remember crying forlornly as the Spacia was filled with tourists on my way back to Asakusa Station on Sundays.
Chiba Prefecture, 40s, Yashichi
Kinugawa and Kawaji Onsen, which I have visited many times. 12 years ago in the winter of Spacia's private room, the distance between the two of us on the way there and back was completely different. This unexpected proposal was a big gift from your shy self, and I think it was much hotter than the one I went to.
Even now, when I ride in a private room, I remember the tense feeling of that time and the gradual completion of the Sky Tree.
Masa-chan, 60s, Kanagawa Prefecture
Every day, I use the Spacia to get off at Tochigi Station or Shimo-imaichi Station and head to my business partner. In the car, I was envious of people traveling to Nikko or Kinugawa with a beer in hand. Work went well on the way home, so I used my computer to report on my work in the car. After that, a beer as a reward. The customers around me are also having fun. Now I can relax and feel paradise. I fell asleep during the comfortable ride and missed Kita-senju Station to get to Asakusa, but it was all for fun. Next time I would like to go to Nikko/Kinugawa without work.
Misumin, 30s, Tokyo
When I was in high school, I attended cram schools from Tochigi to Tokyo. Use the rapid train to go there and the Spacia train to return. The teacher who was teaching the biology class lived in the same prefecture as Tochigi, so we had a great time talking about local topics, and I even had him correct my essay questions at Spacia on the way home. Perhaps it was worth it, and biology became my favorite subject, and now I am working as a pediatrician. For me, Spacia was more of a support during the exam period than a tourist express.

Travel happenings and space

Piccolo from Soka, 60s, Saitama Prefecture
In the summer of 2019, I, a 6th grade teacher, set out on a school trip to Nikko with my students. From Asakusa Station, I took the Toei Subway to Asakusa Station, walked to Tobu Asakusa Station, and was supposed to board the Spacia, but when I arrived at Asakusa Station, there was an announcement that the train would not be running due to a power transmission problem. I'll miss Spacia! My brain was running at full speed, determined to somehow get to Tobu Asakusa Station. Walk to Akihabara Station, then take the Hibiya Line to Kita-senju Station. I boarded the Spacia I was planning to ride in Asakusa at Kita-senju Station. It was an exciting experience at Spacia.
Chiba Prefecture, 40s, father of daughter who became a ninja
In the winter of 2012, my family and I took part in my wife's work trip on Spacia. The destinations are TOBU WORLD SQUARE and Nikko Edomura. The girls were especially excited at Edomura. My second daughter was feeding the carp when she leaned over too far and landed in the pond. I was immediately pulled up, but my whole body was soaked. Since he didn't have a change of clothes, he searched around Edomura and found a ninja suit. I purchased the full set. I will never forget the proud look on my daughter's face as she caught the attention of other passengers on the way home.

I love Spacia!

Takashi Omiya, 60s, Saitama Prefecture
When my young son started to get restless, I hurriedly got off the elevator and took up a position on my shoulders by the railroad tracks in front of my apartment. My son waves at the train passing in front of him. As luck would have it, Spacia passed by, and my tearful face disappeared, and I spread out my maple-like hands as best I could, cheering at my favorite streamlined shape and orange color.
Now, every time I ride the Spacia, the sight of my son growing up strong and strong overlaps with the scenes from those days, and it brings back nostalgic memories. Thank you Spacia! !
Tokyo 30s 3 o'clock snack
My house has a walking course along the railroad tracks. My daughter grew up watching the Tobu Line. When we went to the park, every time a train passed by, he would stop playing and wave goodbye with his little hands.
One day, he pointed at a train that was shining golden as it passed by and happily shouted, ``Peshia! Nikkou mo de!'' You can even speak those words! I was surprised. It was about half a year after we started talking. These are precious memories that remain in my memory during the hectic days of watching my daughter grow up.
Yasu mom in her 30s from Tokyo
My son loves trains. My daily routine is to go to the riverbed and watch the trains. I got excited every time Limited Express Train such as Spacia or Liberty passed by. During my summer vacation, I took a long-awaited trip to Nikko on the Spacia.
When we arrived at Nikko, I asked the conductor to take a family photo with Spacia.
Then the conductor put the hat he was wearing on my son and took a photo with him. He was overjoyed and felt like a conductor, and had some wonderful memories.
Akkun, 40s, Tokyo
I got married and moved to a downtown area with a view of the Sky Tree 8 years ago, and my son was born 5 years ago.
Every day I watched trains from the railroad crossing, and the first word I learned was ``Specia.'' At the age of 2, I took my first trip to Nikko on the Spacia.
When I got into the car, she started crying and asked, ``Where's Spacia?'' I panicked and thought that was the case.
When she turned 4 years old, she saw a poster for the N100 Spacia at home and was looking forward to the new Spacia. I think I'll go to Nikko again in SPACIA X for my birthday next summer.

Thoughts connected by Spacia

Ran, 60s, Saitama Prefecture
My first trip was more than ten years ago, when my father suddenly passed away, and a plan came up out of nowhere.
My mother, two sisters, and me. A trip to Nikko and Kinugawa-onsen with four women. Every year, we changed the accommodation we stayed at and went to different destinations, such as Toshogu Shrine or mountain stream Outbound, but we all traveled on the Spacia at the same time.
An important annual event where we spend time together. My mother also passed away five years ago, but my three sisters still continue to do it. It's a wonderful trip that reminds me of my mother in the one empty seat in Spacia.
Koori, 50s, Tochigi Prefecture
28 years ago, when I was attending university in Tokyo, I used Tobu Railway's rapid train. It was a pleasant 4 hour round trip train ride and I could feel the four seasons from the train window.
Then, when I attended my graduation ceremony and put on my hakama and left the house, my father said, ``Congratulations on your graduation,'' and handed me a reserved seat ticket for Spacia. Although I was sorry for having to suffer financially, my father gave me the best present.
Nakachi, 30s, Saitama Prefecture
About 12 years ago, I boarded the Spacia from Asakusa Station with my boss who lives in Kasukabe.
That day, it was already night after the night shift. We bought a beer at a shop inside Asakusa Station and had a toast. Before I knew it, the door had closed at Kasukabe Station, where I was scheduled to get off, and I was off! Next stop is Tochigi! Then my boss said, ``Tomorrow is my day off, so I'd like to spend the night in Kinugawa.'' I have fond memories of the conversation I had with my boss at a ramen restaurant in Kinugawa. The reason I still get to meet my former boss, who is over 70 years old and retired, once a year is because of that day I overslept at Spacia.
Satopi, 30s, Saitama Prefecture
Ever since I could remember, I have admired the Spacia that dashes around my hometown.
When I was little, my best friend and I both felt the same way, and we promised ourselves that we would travel someday in the future.
More than 30 years have passed since then, and the Spacia continues to run as our admiration.
As I grew up, it became an annual luxury to drink and talk in Compartment with no water in it.
Unchanging friendship, unchanging admiration. Thank you for continuing to run with our bond.
An old man in his 50s who is a painter from Saitama Prefecture
Thirty years ago, an elderly couple I met at Spacia showed me a picture of autumn leaves that they had drawn and said, ``The colors change every year.'' I was moved by this, and since then, my husband and I have continued to visit Nikko every year and continue drawing.
The other day, when I was comparing the colors of past autumn leaves in the Spacia train, a young couple showed interest, so I told them that the colors change every year, and their eyes lit up and said, ``We want to draw them too.'' I did. It was a very strange feeling, as if we were looking at our own past.
Akiko, 40s, Tokyo
``I want to go to Nikko,'' my mother, who lives alone, muttered. Let's take you to Nikko. In the Spacia that I wanted to ride.
First mother-daughter trip in a while. The window seat was for my mother. Enjoy talking while looking at the scenery. Time moves on.
My mother always let me sit by the window when I was a child. That's what it felt like. warm. Thank you for letting me know, Spacia. Nice to meet you again.

Supports Spacia

30s Assistant District Inspection Officer
I started working on 100 series Spacia vehicle maintenance about 13 years ago.
When I was assigned to the Minami-Kurihashi Vehicle District and was conducting inspections with people around the same age as my father, one person said,
"It's difficult to carry out regular inspections, but we have to do it smartly so that we can impress customers who are using Spacia for the first time!"
They said.
Currently, I am involved in planning and management work for vehicle maintenance, cleaning, operation, etc., and I still keep these words in mind as I work hard every day.
40s driver
March 2011 was an unforgettable moment while working on Spacia.
A few weeks after the Great East Japan Earthquake, spring break began, but there was no demand for tourism and the Spacia Limited Express was suspended.
While the railway to the Tohoku area had not yet been opened, the Tobu Railway, Noiwa Railway, and Aizu Railway, which suffered little damage, connected the Aizu region, and several limited express Spacia trains were installed to increase speed between the Tokyo metropolitan area and the Aizu region. I decided to resume driving, although it was a round trip.
One day when I went to work, I was told that the Spacia was running, so I was put in charge of it.
While damage from the earthquake is still being seen along the line, Spacia, which was in charge of connecting the metropolitan area and the Aizu region, has not had any tourist customers until now, but it is carrying customers who need to travel even at times like this. Spacia ran.
My own feelings for Tohoku overlapped, and I realized once again how important it is that the railways are running.
Many things have happened to me over the decades since I served on Spacia. I am very happy to be working on the Spacia as a Tobu Railway driver.
Conductor in his 50s
Spacia made its debut in 1990, the year after I joined Tobu Railway, and it is like a colleague of mine who has spent many years working on the railway together.
When it debuted at the end of the bubble economy, it not only attracted many railway fans with its luxurious equipment and gorgeous body style, but also became the dream and goal of young employees who wanted to be part of the crew.
I was a station attendant at the time, but I aspired to become a train conductor, and my goal was to become a conductor in charge of Spacia, but my dream did not come true 12 years after I became a train conductor.
The first time I worked on a train, I was so nervous that I couldn't stop sweating, and by the time I arrived at the terminal station, Tobu-nikko Station, my back was soaked.I was happy to be a train crew member, but I realized how difficult it was to be in charge of a signature train and guide customers. Did. I still can't forget that day.

19 years have passed since then, and although I still find it difficult to guide customers, I feel fulfilled when I hear a "thank you" or a smile from a customer, or when a child waves at me. .
Safety and comfort are the basis of railway services, so let's continue to provide safety and comfort together with Spacia, our juniors, Liberty and SPACIA X!
It has been 32 years since Spacia was introduced, but we ask for your continued support.
