The British Embassy Villa Memorial Park is located in Nikko in Tochigi. It lets visitors enjoy the rich nature of Lake Chuzenji and the history of an international summer resort.
The building in the park was built in 1896 as the private villa of Ernest Satow, a British diplomat who had a big influence on Japan's Meiji Restoration. It was later restored to its appearance when it was used as a British Embassy Villa.
The interior introduces visitors to the history of an international summer resort and British culture of the time. On the wide veranda on 2F, you can see the "painting-like scenery" of Lake Chuzenji that Satow admired so much.
The British Embassy Villa Memorial Park is closed during the winter but reopens from April! Be sure to check it out during your Nikko trip.
