On July 26 2025 (Sat.) the 48th Sumida River Fireworks Festival will be held in Sumida Ward, Tokyo. This festival has its origins in the Ryogoku River Opening ceremony during Japan’s Edo Era. It is known as the most traditional and prestigious festival of its kind in the Kanto region. The festival consists of two venues – the fireworks start going off from 19:00 at the first venue (Sakurabashi Bridge downstream – Kototoibashi Bridge upstream) and 19:30 at the second venue (Komagatabashi Bridge downstream – Umayabashi Bridge upstream). Around 20,000 fireworks color the summer night sky, and the sight of them reflected on the surface of the Sumida River is truly impressive.
