Ashikaga Orihime Shrine, with over 1,300 years of history, enshrines the guardian deity of the textile industry. It is known for giving blessings in marriage and industrial prosperity. The vermilion-painted shrine building was built modeled on the Phoenix Hall of Byodo-in Temple, and is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.
You can gaze at the Kanto Plain from the shrine grounds, with an expansive view of downtown Ashikaga and the Watarasegawa River at night. This beautiful scenery is recognized as a Night View Heritage of Japan, and the view from dusk to nighttime is especially incredible. The Ashikaga Lantern Story is held here every autumn - Meisen-pattern lights are lit up on the 229 stone steps of the temple, producing a magical atmosphere. Enjoy serene moments at Ashikaga Orihime Shrine, where history, nature, and light are woven together. *Event schedule has yet to be determined for this year.
