The Kawagoe Festival is held in Kawagoe City in Saitama on the 3rd Saturday and Sunday of every October. This traditional festival has its roots in the major annual autumn Shinto festival held at Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine. In 2025 it will be held on October 18 (Sat.) and 19 (Sun.). With over 370 years of history, it has been designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. 29 splendid festival floats tour the city, showing traditional arts such as musical performances and traditional festival dances in the day . At night the “hikkawase,” a competition between festival floats, is held, enveloping the area in a magical atmosphere.
