During winter in Mt. Akagi, you can see the frozen surface of the high-elevation Lake Konuma and Lake Onuma from January to February. The lakes’ surfaces are covered by thick ice, and walking on these surfaces lets you experience winter-exclusive ice smelt fishing. In addition, you can sometimes see icefalls - frozen waterfall walls along the streams of Lake Konuma, creating a fantastical winter landscape. There are also guided trekking tours, so even hiking beginners can enjoy hiking here without worry.
