Irohazaka connects Nikko, Oku-Nikko, and Lake Chuzenji in Tochigi. It’s a famous, hilly driveway with 48 hairpin curves in total, and is composed of Irohazaka 1 (downhill) and Irohazaka 2 (uphill), reaching an altitude of around 440 meters. From the Akechidaira Observatory midway up, you can gaze at the grand nature of Nikko, including mountains, lakes, and waterfalls, with different kinds of beauty to enjoy in each season. Winter sees roads and trees covered in pure white snow, enveloping the area in an otherworldly quiet and transparency.
