The Yayoi Festival is a traditional event held every year from April 13 to 17 at Nikko Futarasan Shrine. It is known as the festival that announces the arrival of spring in Nikko, and has a history of more than 1,250 years. During the festival, floats called hanayatai, which are decorated with colorful flowers, parade through the town, then gather at the shrine along with the sound of festival music. On the final day, the Hanayatai from eleven eastern and western areas assemble in the shrine grounds, creating vibrant scenery that lets visitors feel the coming of spring.
