The Torigoe Festival is a traditional celebration held at Torigoe Shrine in Taito Ward, Tokyo known for its lively downtown atmosphere. In 2026, the main events take place on June 6 (Sat.) and June 7 (Sun.). The festival’s biggest highlight is the procession of the massive portable shrine known as the "Sengan Mikoshi." Said to weigh about four tons, the imposing portable shrine is carried through the neighborhood by a large group of participants, creating an overwhelming and powerful spectacle. On Sunday night, when the festival reaches its climax, the event known as Torigoe Night Festival takes place. Lanterns attached to the portable shrine sway gently as it moves through the streets, creating a dreamlike scene. In contrast to the energy of the daytime, the nighttime lets visitors enjoy the beautiful scene of downtown culture at night.
