Visit the Nikko Kanaya Hotel History House, a.k.a. Samurai House!

  • Nikko / Kinugawa Onsen / Aizu

In 1870, Zenichiro Kanaya, the founder of Kanaya Hotel invited Dr. Hepburn, an American medical missionary, to his residence in Nikko. Dr. Hepburn, who was impressed with his hospitality, suggested openning a hotel for foreigners and that was the begining of the opening of the "Samurai House". Its interior remains the same as when the samurai lived there during the Edo period, where you can feel its history. This Samurai House is now opened to the public as the History House.
