During the Edo period, Ouchijuku prospered as a post town on the main road connecting Aizuwakamatsu city and Imaichi in Nikko city.
Lined with private houses with thatched roofs you can still feel traces of the Edo period in these streets.
At Ouchijuku in autumn, you can enjoy beautiful scenery filled with atmosphere. Ouchijuku is also famous for negisoba (buckwheat noodles served with leeks). The best time to see autumn leaves is in mid-October.
